Nagpur: The farmers’ agitation in Nagpur, led by former minister and Prahar Janshakti Party chief Bacchu Kadu, entered its second consecutive day, as thousands of protesting farmers continued to block the Nagpur–Hyderabad National Highway (NH-44) demanding immediate and unconditional loan waivers for debt-ridden cultivators.

The protest, which began on Monday, has drawn large participation from farmers across Vidarbha and Marathwada, regions often described as the epicentre of Maharashtra’s agrarian distress. Protesters shouted slogans against the state government, accusing it of neglecting their long-pending demands despite repeated assurances.

Bacchu Kadu, addressing the demonstrators, said the agitation would not stop until the government announced a comprehensive loan waiver covering all categories of farmers.

Traffic on NH-44 came to a standstill for several hours as police deployed additional personnel to manage the situation and ensure safety. Commuters faced significant delays as the highway remained partially blocked by protesters sitting on the road with placards and tractors.
