New Delhi: Azerbaijan has declared war on the entire Armenian people, but the Armenians are ready for that, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in his national address on Sunday.
“This morning, Azerbaijan again undertook large-scale provocations. As a result, several people are dead and some others wounded, including civilians. Using heavy weapons, the adversary is attacking the positions of the Army of the Defense of the Republic of Artsakh across all sectors. The Army of Defense is engaged in intense fighting, honorably accomplishing its mission of defending Artsakh,” Pashinyan said.
He added that Aliyev’s authoritarian regime once again declared war on the Armenian people. “We’re ready for this war, as we realized that hatred against Armenians, which is being promoted in Azerbaijan, could not produce any result other than war,” Pashinyan voiced.
Armenia says Karabakh downs four Azeri helicopters
Meanwhile, the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh has destroyed four Azerbaijani helicopters, 10 tanks, and an infantry fighting vehicle. The development was noted from a comment made by the spokeswoman for the Armenian Defence Ministry on the ongoing fighting that broke out around Nagorno-Karabakh early on 27 September.
The spokeswoman, Shushan Stepanyan, also said that Karabakh had also destroyed about 15 Azerbaijani unmanned aerial vehicles, including fighter drones.
“Units of the defense army of Nagorno-Karabakh are fighting in the northern, southern and south-eastern sections of the line of contact, halting the enemy’s offensive. The enemy has lost a significant number of troops and armored vehicles,” she added.
Baku and Yerevan are locked in a conflict over Azerbaijan’s breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh, which, along with seven surrounding districts, came under Armenian control in the early 1990s. In July there was a deadly flare-up on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan dozens of kilometers north of Karabakh.
Karabakh says 16 soldiers died in fighting with Azerbaijan
The deputy commander of breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh’s defense army, Artur Sargsyan, has said that 16 Armenian soldiers were killed and hundreds were injured in fighting with Azerbaijan that broke out on Sunday morning.
Sargsyan added that “the military units of the defense army have shot three helicopters, around 20 UAVs, 30 tanks and armored vehicles.”
Azerbaijan addresses people in Karabakh amid heavy fighting
Azerbaijan has asked the civilian population of its breakaway reign of Nagorno-Karabakh to keep away from military facilities. The Defence Ministry in Baku released the appeal amid heavy fighting that broke out around the breakaway region, with both sides accusing each other of starting an offensive.
The statement said that the Armenian army deliberately placed its positions near settlements. Baku in the meantime has imposed restrictions on the internet traffic in Azerbaijan “in order to prevent a large-scale provocation by Armenia”, citing the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and High Technology.
