Mumbai: Republican Party leader Avinash Mahatekar has hit out at Congress, UBT Sena and MNS over their allegations of “increased voting” in the recent Assembly elections. Mahatekar, who is the National General Secretary and Spokesperson of the Republican Party, called the charge “baseless” and asked what role opposition parties’ polling agents played during voting.

Mahatekar explained that as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) norms, polling agents from all political parties — including Congress, UBT Sena and MNS — are present at every booth to verify voter identities. “If there was really excess voting in the last Assembly elections, why did Congress and its allies’ polling agents not raise objections? Did Rahul Gandhi not trust his own party’s agents?” Mahatekar questioned.

The Republican leader alleged that the Congress party and its allies are deliberately raising the issue of “excess voting” to mislead voters ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls in Maharashtra.

According to Mahatekar, repeated claims of bogus voting without evidence damage the credibility of India’s electoral process. He maintained that the checks by polling agents and election officers make large-scale bogus voting impossible.
