Are we rushing to embrace Corona? Why can’t people stay indoors?

Its not time to go on adventure trips. It can be fatal for one and all.

The heavy traffic jam in many parts of Mumbai today Monday morning could have been ignored as a daily affair. No one would have bothered about it. But congregation of hundreds of vehicles at various places in the city leading to chaotic traffic jam needs to be taken very seriously as we are not in the normal times. We are in middle of a global emergency due to pandemic Corona virus.

All the good work and patience people exhibited by remaining indoors on Sunday was washed away by the mad rush to enter Mumbai and also to move about in the city. The visuals of hundreds of cars lined up at Mulund Toll Plaza on Eastern Express Highway trying to enter Mumbai went viral on social media and in no time, the Netizens resorted to sharp criticism of these people.

Many among those travelling to and in Mumbai were on roads just to ‘see the situation’. They were neither in emergency services, nor had any urgency to go out. The mad rush unnecessarily put pressure on police machinery, as the police officials had to verify identity of each and every one travelling to and in Mumbai.

It is not the time to show the courage by resorting to adventure tour. Instead, being indoors will not only help the administration to handle the situation better, but also will protect people from contracting the infection. “We have appealed people not to go out unless it is completely necessary. It is for the betterment of people. Only those who are into emergency and essential services, exempted by the government, should go to work, everyone else can remain indoors and work from home,” said Commissioner of Police, Thane Vivek Phansalkar.

While the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, health minister Rajesh Tope have appealed people to remain indoors, NCP chief Sharad Pawar too has advised people to follow the instructions in total.

In a video message, Pawar has said, “The situation is grave and the administration is doing its job remarkably. We can help the government by remaining indoors and following the instructions.” Health minister Rajesh Tope said, “If the situation doesn’t improve, people don’t follow the instructions, the government will have to take strict action.”
