Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that the subsidised onions would also be sold at market yards and made it clear that the subsidized onions would be sold at Rythu Bazars at Rs 25 per kg till the prices fall.
He claimed that Andhra Pradesh is the only State which is supplying onions at a subsidised rate of Rs 25 per kg at 101 Rythu Bazaar outlets across the the state.
Intervening during the short discussion on onion shortage here on Tuesday on the second day of Assembly sessions, the Chief Minister announced that from Friday onward, onions would be supplied from market yards as well. The Chief Minister informed that the State has supplied 38,496 quintals of onions so far on subsidized price.
He explained that there had been intervention from the government side in ten phases since September and the government ensured that the price is maintained at Rs 25 per kg till the onion market price is stabilised.
“Andhra Pradesh is the only State which is supplying onions at a subsidized price of Rs 25 per KG while the price is much higher even in states that have intervention” he said. In the neighbouring Telangana state, subsidised onion is available in only one Rythu Bazaar and the rate is Rs 45 per kg, while in other States the price is much higher. Onions are sold in Bihar at Rs 35 per kg, in West Bengal Rs 59, Tamil Nadu Rs 49, and Madhya Pradesh Rs 50, the Chief Minister claimed.
“No State has done the intervention and procured onions from open market to supply at subsidised price. AP government is doing it in 101 Rythu Bazaar outlets. We will continue to supply subsidised onions till the onion prices are come down”, the Chief Minister reiterated.
The Opposition TDP is trying to politicise the issue and it is sold in the heritage foods, owned by family members of Chandrababu Naidu at Rs 200 per kg, he said. Of the total quantity of onions, the Centre would be importing, the highest indent of 2,100 quintals is from the State and the first tranche would be coming soon, he said.-UNI news
