New Delhi: A special flight carrying 282 Indian nationals from conflict-hit Iran landed safely in New Delhi early Wednesday morning, bringing the total number of evacuees under Operation Sindhu to 2,858. The flight arrived from Mashhad at 00:01 hrs, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
Operation Sindhu was launched amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, which have since eased following a ceasefire. Several evacuees thanked the Indian Government and Embassy for their smooth and safe return.
This marks the 11th evacuation flight from Iran. On Tuesday, another flight had brought back 281 Indian citizens, along with three Sri Lankans and two Nepalese nationals. Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita received the returnees and reiterated the government’s commitment to assist not just Indian citizens but also neighbours in times of crisis.
So far, a total of 3,180 Indians have been safely evacuated from Iran and Israel combined under Operation Sindhu.
