A devastating road accident in Andhra Pradesh has left at least 10 passengers dead and several others critically injured after a speeding lorry rammed into a private bus, triggering a massive fire that engulfed both vehicles within minutes.
Crash Near Rayavaram Village Turns Deadly
The tragic incident took place early Thursday morning between 6:00 am and 6:30 am near Rayavaram village in Markapuram district. The private bus, operated by Harikrishna Travels, was travelling from Nirmal in Telangana to Nellore when it collided with a tipper lorry while negotiating a turn near a quarry stretch.
According to preliminary reports, the lorry was allegedly overspeeding when it lost control and smashed into the bus, causing an instant explosion-like fire.
A senior police officer said, “The intensity of the flames was such that both vehicles were completely gutted within minutes.”
Passengers Trapped, Many Burnt Alive
At the time of the accident, around 40 passengers were on board. Those seated in the rear portion of the bus were trapped as the fire spread rapidly, leaving them with no chance to escape.
At least 10 passengers were burnt alive in the horrific blaze, while nearly 20 others sustained injuries. Several of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
Passengers seated near the front managed to escape in time, narrowly saving their lives.
Rescue Operations and Hospitalisation
Emergency teams rushed to the spot immediately after the crash. Police and fire department personnel worked to douse the flames and recover victims from the charred remains of the bus.
The injured were shifted to hospitals in Markapuram, where they are undergoing treatment. Authorities fear the death toll could rise as some victims remain critical.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed, though reports suggest some victims may be from the Kanigiri region.
CM Chandrababu Naidu Reacts
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the tragic incident and immediately reviewed the situation with senior officials.
He directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured and ordered close monitoring of rescue and relief operations.
Investigation Underway
Officials have launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident. While overspeeding by the lorry is suspected to be the primary reason, authorities are examining all angles, including road conditions and vehicle safety.
Another Tragedy in Bangladesh
