Amidst escalating tensions and disagreements within the ruling NDA coalition in Maharashtra, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to embark on a crucial visit to the state on Tuesday. His primary objective: to quell the discord over seat-sharing arrangements, particularly in Vidarbha, Marathwada, and North Maharashtra regions.

Shah’s visit comes hot on the heels of the BJP’s unveiling of its initial list of 195 Lok Sabha candidates, none of whom hail from Maharashtra. This absence has only amplified existing fissures within the state’s political landscape.

During his day-long itinerary, Shah will engage in strategic discussions and pre-poll meetings across key locations. These include a session in Akola, Vidarbha, where he will scrutinize critical constituencies such as Akola, Buldhana, Amravati, Chandrapur, and Wardha. Sources suggest that the BJP is grappling with challenges from both internal dissent and alliance partners in these areas.

Officially, the BJP has stated that Shah’s visit is geared towards launching the party’s Lok Sabha campaign in Maharashtra. However, insiders reveal that its underlying purpose is to reconcile differences within the ruling coalition and address lingering grievances.

Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the state BJP president, emphasized the significance of Shah’s visit, particularly in resolving contentious issues with alliance partners. He highlighted the complexities surrounding the Amravati seat, currently held by Independent MP Navneet Rana. Despite Rana’s willingness to contest on a BJP ticket, complications arise from a pending Supreme Court case regarding her alleged misuse of a Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate. Additionally, the Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, is adamant about contesting both the Amravati and Buldhana seats, further complicating matters.

As Maharashtra braces itself for the impending Lok Sabha polls, Shah’s intervention is viewed as a critical step towards restoring harmony within the NDA ranks. With the stakes high and tensions palpable, all eyes are on the outcome of his deliberations as Maharashtra’s political landscape hangs in the balance.
