All-Party Meet Ahead of Parliament Session Reveals Deep Opposition Discontent on Security, Electoral Reforms, and Foreign Claims

New Delhi: A high-level all-party meeting convened by the government ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament has exposed growing unease among opposition parties, who flagged a series of contentious issues ranging from voter roll revisions in Bihar to rising internal security threats and repeated foreign policy claims by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The meeting, chaired by Union Minister and Rajya Sabha Leader J.P. Nadda and attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, sought to build consensus and ensure a smooth parliamentary session. But opposition leaders used the platform to express concerns over what they described as the government’s inaction on several fronts.

Opposition Targets Government on Security Lapses and Democratic Erosion

Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi and Jairam Ramesh, demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally address the Parliament on three core issues: the terror attack in Pahalgam, the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, and Donald Trump’s repeated assertions that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan—claims that remain unaddressed by New Delhi.

Opposition parties allege that the SIR exercise in Bihar could become a tool to disenfranchise vulnerable communities under the guise of voter list correction.

The INDIA bloc, while focusing on united action in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, reiterated its commitment to exposing lapses in national security and raising concerns over foreign leaders commenting on India’s internal affairs without accountability from the ruling government.

AAP Raises Electoral Integrity and Asserts Autonomy

Aam Aadmi Party’s Sanjay Singh expressed serious reservations about the integrity of the SIR process in Bihar, labeling it a potential electoral manipulation attempt. He also brought up Donald Trump’s controversial statements regarding a so-called “ceasefire” effort, calling for immediate clarification on the matter in Parliament.

Singh also clarified that while AAP is aligned with the INDIA bloc for national elections, it will maintain independence in state-level contests, hinting at selective cooperation going forward.

Regional Voices Add to the Pressure

Adding to the chorus of dissent, BJD’s Sasmit Patra turned the spotlight on deteriorating law and order, citing two horrific incidents in Odisha—including the self-immolation of a student and a brutal assault on a minor girl—as examples of systemic collapse. Patra accused the state’s BJP leadership of failing to protect citizens and called for parliamentary scrutiny over internal governance breakdowns.

Government Calls for Cooperation Amid Rising Tensions

Despite the wave of criticism, the government representatives appealed for the opposition’s support to ensure legislative productivity during the session. Ministers stressed the need for constructive debate and unity in tackling national challenges.
