Prayagraj: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party leader, Akhilesh Yadav, sharply criticized the state government for prioritizing VIP facilities at the Maha Kumbh Mela, held in Prayagraj, over the needs of ordinary devotees. In a scathing post on social media, Yadav highlighted the stark contrast between the experiences of common pilgrims and VIPs at the religious gathering.

Yadav shared a video showing common devotees walking long distances, while VIP convoys passed by. “On one hand, devotees are being pushed and shoved, walking 5 to 10 kilometers on foot, while on the other, leaders, officials, and their families are comfortably seated in cars, honking their horns, and heading straight to the Mahakumbh,” he stated.

The SP chief accused the Yogi Adityanath-led state government of neglecting the common people and benefiting only the VIPs, while ordinary citizens were left to endure long waits in queues. “Yogi Ji, who boasts about the systems and spends crores on promoting them, is only benefiting the VIPs. The common people have to stand in long lines or wait for hours to avail the benefits of these systems,” he remarked.

Yadav also took a dig at the use of VIP facilities by political leaders and officials, questioning whether the sins of those taking a dip in Triveni with such privileges were being washed away or compounded. “It’s hard to understand whether the sins of those who reach the place of faith with VIP facilities are being washed away or are they accumulating more?” he quipped.

In addition, he slammed the government’s inaction and accused it of trying to confuse the public with trivial issues ahead of elections. “Officials are thoroughly enjoying the government’s inaction, while the leaders sitting in the government are under the illusion that they can confuse the public with absurd issues during elections and regain their seats,” Yadav added.

This critique comes amid multiple videos circulating on social media, showing devotees expressing frustration over the difficulties they faced while heading to take a holy dip. Yadav further urged the state administration to focus on facilitating the needs of pilgrims, instead of catering to VIPs. “The government should ensure smooth transport for pilgrims instead of creating difficulties due to VIP protocols. The Maha Kumbh should be about special arrangements for the devotees, not the dignitaries,” he wrote.
