Akhilesh Yadav Explodes Over Women’s Reservation Bill, Accuses BJP of ‘Using Women for Votes’ Ahead of Elections

Akhilesh Yadav Launches Fierce Attack on BJP Over Women’s Reservation Bill

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday mounted a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party during the Lok Sabha debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill, accusing the ruling party of turning the legislation into an electoral strategy rather than a genuine effort to empower women.

Speaking during the debate, Yadav alleged that the BJP was using the Women’s Reservation Bill as a political instrument to recover lost public support ahead of future elections.

‘BJP Is Using Women’s Reservation for Votes,’ Says Akhilesh

In a fiery speech in the Lok Sabha, Akhilesh Yadav claimed the BJP was “seeking votes under the guise of the Women’s Reservation Bill” and alleged that the government was rushing the legislation for political gain.

He argued that the move was less about women’s empowerment and more about electoral arithmetic, accusing the BJP of using the issue to consolidate support.

The Samajwadi Party chief further alleged that the government was pushing the bill in haste to avoid conducting a caste-based census.

SP Supports Reservation but Questions BJP’s Intent

While criticizing the Centre, Akhilesh clarified that the Samajwadi Party fully supports women’s reservation but raised concerns about how the government plans to implement it.

He said the current framework risks excluding women from backward and marginalised communities.

“Samajwadi Party is in favour of women’s reservation. Samajwadi Party has a history of always working for women empowerment. Our leader, whose ideology we follow, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, always talked about gender justice and social justice,” Yadav said.

According to him, any reservation policy that does not adequately represent backward communities cannot deliver real social justice.

Government Introduces Three Key Bills in Lok Sabha

The Centre on Thursday introduced three major bills in the Lok Sabha to operationalise women’s reservation in legislative bodies.

These include the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, and the Delimitation Bill.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced two of the legislations, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah tabled the third.

The move sparked an intense debate in the House, with the ruling alliance defending the legislation as a historic reform and the Opposition accusing the government of politicising women’s representation.

Political Tensions Rise Over Women’s Quota Debate

The discussion on the Women’s Reservation Bill quickly turned into a political showdown, with the BJP and Opposition parties exchanging sharp accusations over the intent and design of the proposed legislation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the House later, which may further escalate the political significance of the debate.

The issue is likely to remain a major flashpoint as parties battle over social justice, caste representation, and electoral strategy ahead of the next general elections.
