Mumbai: Domestic air travel may experience temporary disruptions after Airbus issued a global technical directive affecting its A320 family aircraft. Following the advisory, India’s two largest carriers—Air India and IndiGo—announced on Saturday that passengers may face delays and minor schedule changes as precautionary updates are carried out across their fleets.
Air India was the first to issue a public statement, confirming on X that it is “aware of a directive from Airbus related to its A320 family aircraft currently in-service across airline operators,” adding that the requirement would lead to a “software/hardware realignment” on part of its fleet. The airline warned that the updates would result in “longer turnaround time and delays” until the adjustments are completed.
Expressing regret for the inconvenience, the carrier advised passengers to stay updated before travelling. “Air India regrets any inconvenience this may cause to passengers till the reset is carried out across the fleet. We request customers to check their flight status at https://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html
before heading to the airport and connect with our contact centre at 011-69329333, 011-69329999 for any further assistance,” the airline posted.
The development comes shortly after Air India announced the successful completion of its retrofit programme for its legacy A320neo fleet. The airline recently returned its final refurbished aircraft—out of 27—to service, featuring redesigned cabin interiors and the carrier’s modern new livery. Combined with new A320neo deliveries and aircraft assimilated through the Vistara merger, Air India now operates 104 A320-family aircraft equipped with fresh or upgraded interiors.
IndiGo also issued an advisory on X, underscoring its commitment to passenger safety. The airline stated, “Safety comes first. Always…Airbus has issued a technical advisory for the global A320 fleet. We are proactively completing the mandated updates on our aircraft with full diligence and care, in line with all safety protocols.”
The low-cost carrier cautioned that some flights may be marginally affected as it works through the mandatory updates. “While we work through these precautionary updates, some flights may see some slight schedule changes,” IndiGo said. It further assured passengers of constant support, adding, “Our teams are here 24×7 to support you with rebooking, updates, and information. Please check your latest flight status on our app/website before heading to the airport. Thank you for your patience and trust on us.”
