Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader Kirit Somaiya on Thursday met the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) municipal commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal and lodged a complaint against BMC Mayor Kishori Pednekar for indulging in alleged various corrupt practices, false declaration and misleading statements regarding her residential and commercial premises and businesses. Somaiya had handed over the complaint letter with supporting documents to the municipal commissioner demanding inquiry and action against Pednekar for being involved in alleged corrupt practices.
Somaiya in his letter claimed that Pednekar has misused her position as Mayor and had illegally captured and occupied a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) premises which was meant for poor slum dwellers. She has also benefited her family by giving the BMC’s contract to her family members.
Further Somaiya also alleged that Pednekar had filed false and misleading information in her election affidavit as well as with the registrar of the companies. She is also running her family business Kish Corporate Services India Private Limited from ground floor premises in the Gomata Janata SRA Society building which was not allotted to her or her family and actually meant for the Social Welfare Center. Despite being in the know of these violations BMC and SRA did not take any action against mayor and her family.
“Mayor Kishori Pednekar has misused her official position and is involved in corruption and illegal activities. She had illegally occupied, captured Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) premises for 12 long years which was meant for poor slum dwellers. She has also benefited her family by giving the BMC’s contract to her family members. I have complained about this to the BMC commissioner and I hope that the BMC will take action against her”, said Kirit Somaiya.
Thenews21 tried to contact Pednekar for her version of the allegations made against her. However, as she was in quarantine she was not available to comment on the issue.
