New Delhi: Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the brutal terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, sources told the news agency. The meeting underscores the government’s focus on security preparedness and strategic coordination in the face of escalating threats.

This high-level meeting followed Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi’s visit to PM Modi at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence on Saturday, signaling ongoing consultations with top defence officials.

The Air Chief’s discussion with the Prime Minister comes shortly after a crucial security meeting chaired by PM Modi and attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, the three service chiefs, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The series of engagements reflect the urgency with which the government is addressing the security situation.

The intensified activity at the highest levels of government and defence follows the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists. In response, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) convened a meeting where the government declared that India is determined to “deal a crushing blow to terrorism.”

“The terrorists responsible for the attack and the conspirators behind it will face severe punishment,” the government stated, reaffirming its resolve.

The government has granted the armed forces complete operational freedom, empowering them to determine the “mode, targets, and timing” of India’s response. Notably, an all-party meeting was convened in the aftermath of the attack, where opposition parties expressed unanimous support for firm retaliatory measures.

In the CCS briefing, officials highlighted the cross-border linkages of the Pahalgam attack, drawing attention to its timing—just after the peaceful and successful conduct of elections in Jammu and Kashmir, and the region’s continuing march towards economic development.
