After Meeting Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Omar Abdullah Hints at New Power Projects in Kashmir and Jammu

Srinagar: In a significant development, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday to discuss ongoing and upcoming projects in the Power and Housing and Urban Affairs departments. The meeting comes amid heightened focus on regional development following the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty.

Speaking after the meeting, Omar Abdullah said, “I have both the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Progress is being made in both… Now, after the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, we have two projects in front of us on which work can start soon, one in Kashmir and one in Jammu. Now talks are going on with the central government regarding both the projects. Let’s see what happens next…”

Echoing the sentiment, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar praised the work being done in Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “It is a matter of great happiness that a lot of work is being done in both the departments (Power and Housing and Urban Affairs), and wherever there are some issues, they have brought them to the notice of the Central Government and if there are issues here, we have brought them to their notice, we will take them forward smoothly. A lot of work has been done in the power department in the last few years and Jammu and Kashmir has gone ahead of other states in the power department, especially in some things, like smart meters and prepaid smart meters, all other states are far behind in these subjects, but the achievement of Jammu and Kashmir is very high…”
