Aditya Thackeray lends support to Save Aarey cause, demands replacing MMRCL chief

Mumbai: Stopping short of taking the name of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) managing director Ashwini Bhide accusing her of being adamant in not listening to the concerns raised over the Metro 3 car shed at Aarey Milk Colony, Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray on Tuesday demanded replacing the MMRCL chief with one who does not have any problems in listening to the grievances of Mumbaikars. Speaking to newspersons at Sena Bhavan, Dadar, he added that the Sena was not opposed to the Metro line, but was opposed to the Metro 3 car shed at Aarey. He further demanded that Aarey Milk Colony be declared as Forest.

Slamming the MMRCL, for its argument that if the car shed does not come up at Aarey then Metro is not possible, the Yuva Sena chief wanted to know as to why the MMRCL came up with this argument at the last moment. Thackeray further while commenting upon the environment impact assessment studies conducted by the consultancy firm hired by MMRCL, termed it as a big scam. He added that the Sena was opposed to the adamant attitude over the Metro car shed. Thackeray argued that by saying that it will not construct the car shed anywhere else other than Aarey is like threatening the Court and Mumbaikars.

Thackeray further argued that the government ought to listen to the voices of dissent even if it means one person or a thousand people are opposing it. Taking further pot-shots at the MMRCL and the state government, he said that like there are WiFi spots at railway stations, the Sena will have to start Oxygen WiFi spots in Mumbai. He added that the project will endanger the rich bio-diversity, leopards, flies, insects and other wild animals. Thackeray added that the Sena has no issues with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), but wanted to know why people are having problems with the MMRCL. He urged the government to listen to the voices of the people.
