Aditya Thackeray breaks Thackeray family tradition, announces he will contest assembly polls from Worli

Mumbai: Yuva Sena president Aditya Thackeray on Monday finally announced that he was taking the plunge into electoral politics and would be contesting the ensuing October 21 Assembly elections from Worli constituency. Addressing a Vijay Sankalp Melawa at Lala Lajpatrai College near Mahalaxmi, he remarked “I have taken permission of party president (father Uddhav Thackeray), but if you all give your consent and if you all desire so then I today here announce that I shall contest this elections. Your love and blessings are there with me and hence I am taking this big leap”

Justifying his decision to enter electoral politics, he said that politics is such a medium that your one decision can impact the fortunes of lakhs of people. Thackeray stated that while Worli will be developed, but Maharashtra needs to be taken forward.

Thackeray further remarked, “it is not that only for the sake of Worli, but we together will have to work for Maharashtra. Contesting elections is not just for the sake of my dreams, but it is for creating a new Maharashtra. This is the time to make debt free Maharashtra, pollution free Maharashtra, unemployment free Maharashtra, and a green, prosperous and vibrant Maharashtra, to take Shiv Sena to all corners of Maharashtra, Vidharbha, Marathwada, Thane, Khandesh, Western Maharashtra, Raigad-Konkan. Raise your hand, I see no discrimination in this and this is the time for all to come together”.

Invoking his grandfather, late Sena Chief Balasaheb Thackeray, the Yuva Sena leader stated that his grandfather had taught him to do 80 percent social work and 20 percent politics. Thackeray said that for the last two to three months he has been touring the state and thanking all those who had voted for the Sena in the recent Lok Sabha polls and seeking their blessings.

He said that for the last 50 years the love and affection that you people had given Hinduhriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray and party president Uddhav Thackeray, the same love and affection you are giving me now and the same I am going to carry forward. Thackeray said that he has been touring both the drought prone and flood affected regions of the state and added that the Sena has done a lot for these affected people. He called upon the people to be the voice of those people whom he could not interact during his tours of the state.
