In the lead-up to the two-day gathering of the Opposition INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) parties in Mumbai, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has put forth Arvind Kejriwal as a possible candidate for the Prime Ministerial role. AAP’s National Spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar, conveyed to news agency ANI that her party believes Arvind Kejriwal should be the face of the Prime Ministerial position, citing his commendable track record as the Chief Minister of Delhi in implementing effective welfare schemes despite significant challenges and inflation.

Priyanka Kakkar, Chief National Spokesperson of AAP, expressed, “If you ask me, I would want Arvind Kejriwal to be the Prime Ministerial candidate. Even in the face of daunting inflation, Delhi, the national capital, boasts the lowest inflation rate. The city offers free water, education, electricity, and bus rides for women, as well as free pilgrimage opportunities for the elderly—all while maintaining a surplus budget. He addresses people’s concerns and emerges as a formidable contender.”

AAP’s comments come on the eve of the third meeting of the Opposition INDIA bloc parties in Mumbai. The meeting is convened to strategize and coordinate their approach against the BJP-led NDA government in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

As the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha Elections draw near, the speculation surrounding the Prime Ministerial candidate for the INDIA bloc intensifies. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself declared his intent to continue in the role and address the nation as Prime Minister on the next Independence Day, there has been no official statement or indication regarding the PM candidate for the Opposition’s INDIA bloc. Analysts attribute this uncertainty to the ambitions of leaders within the INDIA bloc, such as Nitish Kumar and Mamata Banerjee, who also aspire for the Prime Ministerial position, making the selection of a candidate a complex task for the alliance.
