Mumbai: Andrew Millison, a well-known international permaculture designer and a professor at Oregon State University had recently visited a village in Maharashtra to understand the work that they do on watershed management. The International permaculturist and professor was completely amazed by the work done by the villagers. Andrew in his video channel mentioned that the villagers have learnt and skilled themselves in water conservation measures only because of the water cup competition.
Andrew mentioned that the water cup competition held by Paani Foundation is the biggest permaculture project presently undertaken on this Earth. He filmed the same ongoing project run by Paani Foundation and shared it on his You Tube channel.
Paani foundation has provided training to the villagers in watershed management and the villagers raised the level of a spillway to ensure the rise of the water level in the whole reservoir which in turn replenished their water supply.
The organisation has been founded by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, Reena Dutta and Satyajit Bhatkal.
Permaculture is the development of agricultural ecosystems to achieve sustainability and self-sufficiency.
