Meghalaya police has apprehended an accused in the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Laitumkhrah market in Shillong. The explosion took place on Tuesday afternoon wherein banned militant group Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) took responsibility. The blast left two people injured.
According to East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, the person allegedly involved in the case has been arrested. The SP further informed that the investigation of the case is in progress.
Earlier yesterday, Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has admitted that there was a lapse in security but denied intelligence failure. The security in the city has been beefed up in view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, he added.
