Considering the possibility of the third wave of Covid-19, BMC gears up the preparations

BMC will be increasing the number of covid tests and contact tracing, against the backdrop of the third wave arriving in US and Europe.

Mumbai: As the United States of America (USA) and some countries in Europe are reporting the arrival of the Third Wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Brihanmumbai Mumbai Corporation (BMC) has tightened its belt in its fight against the Coronavirus. The BMC has already started all necessary planning and preparations keeping in view the possibility of this third wave in the city. So that if such a situation arises in the future, it will be possible to avoid the serious conditions which Mumbai has faced during the first and second wave more effectively.

In this connection, BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs), Suresh Kakani have drawn up the plan of action to the BMC administration.

Which mainly includes increasing the availability of beds, increasing the number of covid treatment centers, hospitals, availability of the medical gases in the hospitals, increasing the number of covid tests, more effective implementation of restricted areas, etc.

Giving more information on the preparations, Suresh Kakani said that clear instructions have been issued recently to all the 7 circles and 24 divisional offices of BMC. The key points regarding these guidelines are as follows.

The Covid treatment centers set up at various places between the first and second waves have been ordered to update the system and deploy with the required manpower.

Also, the number of tests conducted will be increased as a medical preventive measure against covid.

Prompt medical treatment should be started to patients testing positive with both ‘RTPCR’ test and ‘Rapid Antigen’ test. Also, necessary kits will be given.

Contact Tracing:

In order to prevent the spread of infection, contact tracing will be performed on people who have been in close contact with covid infected patients. Initially, contact tracing of 15 persons who had come in contact with the patient was being done, which will be increased to 20 persons now.

Restricted area and follow-up of infected patients

It has been ordered to conduct more effective and continuous follow-up on a regular basis at the level of affected patients and suspected patients in restricted areas.

Review and training of departmental level control rooms

In order to make the management to fight covid more effectively and more efficiently, orders have been issued to keep department level control rooms functioning in all the 24 wards of BMC.

About Jumbo Covid Hospitals and Covid Treatment Centers: –

 The facilities at jumbo Covid Hospitals and treatment Centers, which have been set up by the BMC in a short span of time, supply of necessary medical items, cleaning and hygiene services, catering services etc. are also being reviewed.

Complete compliance with the covid prevention Rules.

For covid prevention, it has been appealed to citizens to use the mask in public places, maintain safe distance between two or more persons, and frequent washing of hands with soap.

Medical facility to covid patients will be available at government and private hospitals including Jumbo Covid centers are at NSCI in Worli, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Nesco in Goregaon East, Seven Hills Hospital, Jumbo Covid center in Dahisar, Kanjurmarg and various hospitals under the jurisdiction of BMC.

Also, 30,364 beds are available in various hospitals and covid centers in the municipal area. There are 17,697 oxygen beds, 3,788 intensive care beds, 1,460 beds for children, 230 beds in the intensive care unit for children and 53 beds in the intensive care unit (NICU) for newborns.
