Mumbai is in level three based on the weekly positivity rate and the occupancy of oxygen beds. Reason behind not starting the local train is the high positivity rate in the city. However, Mumbai is at level-3 with a positivity rate of 5.56 per cent and oxygen bed occupancy rate of 32.51 per cent for the May 28-June 3 week.
According to the Maharashtra government’s Level 3 guidelines, travelling in local trains is restricted to medical, essential staff and women. However, the BMC in its guidelines has not permitted women to travel in Mumbai locals. In Mumbai, travel in local trains is permitted only for medical and essential services, the BMC said in its order.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, while speaking to ANI, informed that the decision on whether to open local trains for the general public will be taken after a week, depending on the COVID-19 situation in the city.
