In Maharashtra, the strict restrictions imposed in Nashik district during the last 12 days have been eased from today. As a result, the Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) in Nashik and neighbouring Lasalgaon were opened for the traders.

Farmers in large number have visited the APMCs with their agricultural produce. However, the small time vendors were restrained from entering these APMCs. AIR correspondent reports that the APMCs across Nashik district were shut after strict restrictions were clamped on 12th of this month to contain the spread of COVID 19.

However with the ease of restrictions coming into place from today, farmers from various parts have been visiting the APMCs to sell their produce. The farmers’ are given access into the APMCs after checking their identity cards and COVID test reports. The scenes were no different in Lasalgaon APMC, one of the biggest onion markets in the country.

According to the district authorities only 500 vehicles transporting onion have been given access into the APMC. With limited access to vehicles, a long queue of more than two kilometres was witnessed outside the Lasalgaon APMC. The auctioning of onions brought in these 500 vehicles will be done today itself.
