Maharashtra: 3 lakh farmers paid pending dues of Rs 312 crore

Mumbai: Maharashtra government’s New Agriculture Pump Power Connection scheme has been receiving a good response from the farming community. The scheme announced in October 2020 has provided various relaxations to farmers to pay their pending dues. Since the scheme was announced, as many as 3 lakh 42 thousand farmers have paid dues to the tune of 312 crore 41 lakh rupees.

In a bid to provide more relief to the farmers’ the state government has waived-off pending dues worth Rs15 thousand crore, an official press statement said.

The scheme entails that those farmers who have not paid their dues before September 2015 their interest and late fees will be waived off. Similarly, those who have not paid their dues after 2015 their late fees will be waived off.

It said, the amount collected in the form of dues from the farmers will be spent to augment the energy infrastructure in that same village.

It is to be mentioned that Maharashtra State Electric Board (MSEB) has collected a massive 138 crore 91 lakh rupees from Pune division, followed by 95 crore 73 lakh in Konkan, 59 crore 37 lakh in Aurangabad and 18 crore 39 lakh from Nagpur division.
