Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi highlights various initiatives for welfare of minorities

‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ has been the mantra of the Narendra Modi government for inclusive India.

In the last six years, the government has worked for the welfare of every section of the society, particularly minority, marginalized and Divyangjan. The practice of Triple Talaq was banned last year to provide justice and dignified life to Muslim women in the country. There has been about an 82 per cent decline in triple talaq cases since the law came into force.

Talking to AIR News, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi highlighted various initiatives for the welfare of minorities including scholarship for students, Hunar Haat, digitisation of Waqf properties, skill development and employment.

The government has also worked for the welfare of transgenders and in this direction the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill was passed by Parliament last year. It prohibits discrimination against them in employment, education, housing, healthcare and other services.

The Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry has given focused attention to policy issues and meaningful thrust to the activities aimed at welfare and empowerment of the Persons with Disabilities.

Recently, Centre has asked all States to include Divyangjan under Antyodaya Anna Yojana. Under this scheme, they will get 35 kg food grain per family every month. It also urged the States to ensure that Divyangjan get five kg free food grain per person under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Package announced in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
