Mumbai: The State government on Friday in a meeting decided to implement the Khawti loan scheme (cash and kind loan scheme) to give support to the tribals, poor and needy people. As soon as the decision was announced senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chitra Wagh expressed happiness over the government’s decision, as she has raised the issue aggressively.
After the recent incident, wherein a mother ended her life after killing her 3-year-old girl child as she could not feed her baby due to poverty. The incident took place in a village of Palghar district after which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chitra Wagh has raised the issue and put before the Maharashtra government.
Chitra Wagh herself had visited the Kadvyachimali village in Jawahar taluka in Maharashtra’s Palghar district to meet the family who lost two of its members due to starvation and also to know about the current situation of the schemes run by the state government.

On Friday, in a meeting the decision of implementing the Khawti scheme for poor needy and tribals was taken. As soon as the decision was taken, Wagh had tweeted about it.
“It is understood that the government has decided to support the tribals. Since the lockdown, the tribals have been in a state of starvation. We have demanded immediate implementation of the #KhawatiYojana to save these families as there is no employment, no money, and no food to eat. It was late but the government woke up”, tweeted Chitra Wagh.
Over the past four months, the government has begun to take a number of decisions. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on Friday approved the introduction of Khawati subsidy for tribal families, which was discontinued in 2014, approved an expenditure of Rs 486 crore for it.
In the Corona pandemic times there is an urgent need to provide financial assistance to tribal families as they have no employment. A total grant of Rs. 4,000 will be given under this scheme. The needy will get Rs 2000, which will be deposited directly in their bank account and domestic essential commodities worth Rs 2,000.
This will benefit three lakh families of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) workers, tribal and Pardhi families, needy, abandoned, divorcee, widows, landless and a total of three lakh families will be benefitted as well as a total of 11,55,000 families and around 1,65,000 individual will get forest rights.
While speaking to The News 21, Wagh said “Der aaye, Durust aaye, though it’s already very late as this scheme is given out in the rainy season only when tribals and the needy are in real need as they don’t get any job in this season. But still I am happy that now the scheme will be implemented and I will continuously work on certain issues.”
