Tomar says GoI gave interim assistance to Maha Farmers, Pawar meets Modi

New Delhi:

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar said the centre has provided interim assistance to the farmers of Maharastra and the Government is committed for the welfare of farmers in the country. Talking to the media outside Parliament, the Minister said that farmers have lost their crops due to heavy rains and the central team will be visiting the affected state to take a review of the situation and after the review, the centre will provide the assistance.

Earlier, in the day, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament. Speaking to newspersons later, the NCP chief stated that he had met the Prime Minister to apprise him of farmers distress in Vidarbha and Nashik. Pawar added that he had invited the Prime Minister for a conference in Pune. The NCP chief clarified that there was nothing political discussed at the meeting that lasted for 45 minutes. The Prime Minister had also called Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the meeting.  (Agencies)
