A man from Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur has been arrested for allegedly sending a death threat against Chief Minister Mohan Yadav through the Dial-112 WhatsApp service, police said.
Investigators believe the man was not planning to harm the Chief Minister. Instead, police suspect he sent the threatening message in an attempt to get his father arrested following a personal dispute.
Threat Message Sent On September 23
Police received the message at around 11.30 am on September 23. The accused allegedly altered the message twice before deleting it from the WhatsApp service.
However, personnel handling Dial-112 managed to save a screenshot of the message. The digital evidence helped police begin the process of identifying the sender.
Crime Branch Tracks Accused
Following the complaint, a technical investigation was launched to trace the origin of the message and identify the person behind it.
The Crime Branch subsequently tracked the accused to Burhanpur and arrested him. Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar confirmed the arrest and said investigators were questioning the man to establish the circumstances behind the threat.
According to the police investigation, the accused was upset with his father and believed that making a threat against the Chief Minister would lead authorities to arrest his father.
Police Say No Actual Attack Plan Found
Investigators have so far found no indication that the accused was preparing to carry out an actual attack on the Chief Minister.
Police are continuing to examine the message, the accused’s communications and other circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the exact motive and decide on further legal action.
The accused was previously detained in a separate case related to travelling on a train without a valid ticket. He has now been taken to Bhopal, where questioning is underway.
