The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has filed a police complaint against influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj, accusing him of using party president Chirag Paswan’s name to claim political backing.
The complaint was submitted at Parliament Street Police Station, where the party requested police to register an FIR and take action against Bhardwaj.
The LJP(RV) also made it clear that Bhardwaj has no official association with the party. The party said this should be formally recorded while urging the police to investigate his claims.
Bhardwaj has been facing allegations over an alleged assault involving Sanjay, the father of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activist Nishu Aazad, during a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in July.
The controversy intensified after a video of Bhardwaj discussing the incident circulated on social media. In the interview, he allegedly claimed that he had “cracked the skull” of Sanjay.
Nishu Aazad later alleged that police had not registered an FIR over the incident and appealed to Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for help.
Bhardwaj, however, has denied wrongdoing and described his actions as self-defence. Speaking to ANI on Friday, he said he feared that he could have been attacked or killed by the crowd if he had not defended himself.
“If I had not acted in self-defence, I could have been lynched by the mob or killed,” Bhardwaj said.
He was later detained by Delhi Police in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Police said he was apprehended while travelling towards Khurja after leaving Naithla village.
Following his detention, Chirag Paswan publicly distanced himself and the LJP(RV) from Bhardwaj. Paswan said he and his party stood with Nishu Aazad and her father and supported a fair investigation into the matter.
He also warned against anyone attempting to undermine the law and called for an impartial police probe.
Describing the allegations as serious, Paswan said that an open admission of severely beating someone, particularly if it could potentially have caused death, would set a troubling precedent if no action followed.
The latest complaint by the LJP(RV) adds another dimension to the controversy, with the party specifically seeking to distance itself from Bhardwaj and his claims of political protection.
