An IndiGo flight travelling from Goa to Delhi was forced to turn back shortly after take-off on Tuesday after the aircraft reportedly experienced an engine problem. The plane later landed safely at Manohar International Airport (Mopa), with all passengers and crew members safe.
Flight 6E 2102 took off from Goa at around 9:16 am and was scheduled to arrive in Delhi at approximately 11:45 am. However, the aircraft changed course after an engine-related issue was reported during the flight.
According to flight-tracking information, the aircraft was flying over the southern Maharashtra coast at an altitude of around 14,000 feet when it began returning towards Mopa Airport.
Air Traffic Control Declares Emergency
As the aircraft headed back to Goa, Air Traffic Control declared a full emergency at approximately 9:30 am.
The flight subsequently approached Mopa Airport and landed safely on Runway 28 at around 9:51 am. It was later moved to Stand 6, while the emergency was officially called off at approximately 10:03 am.
All passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft and taken to the airport’s boarding area. Arrangements were then made for their onward travel to Delhi.
Delhi Flight Rescheduled
The scheduled Goa-Delhi service was subsequently expected to depart at around 3:30 pm, subject to the aircraft receiving the required clearance and completion of operational procedures.
The precise cause of the engine problem has not yet been established. Further details are awaited as the incident remains under review.
The incident did not result in any reported injuries to passengers or crew members. Twin-engine passenger aircraft are designed with procedures that allow them to safely continue flight or return to an airport following an engine failure.
