The Samajwadi Party has stepped up preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, launching a booth-level campaign as party chief Akhilesh Yadav intensified his criticism of the ruling BJP government.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Yadav said the party’s district-level leaders would begin highlighting what he described as corruption and the alleged mistreatment of backward classes, Dalits and minorities. The SP is seeking to consolidate its PDA — Pichhade, Dalit and Alpsankhyak — support base ahead of the polls.
Yadav launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and accused the BJP government of being the most corrupt administration in the state’s history.
Akhilesh Yadav Targets BJP Over JPNIC
The SP chief also turned his attention to the controversy surrounding the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) in Lucknow.
Responding to allegations made by Adityanath against him and his family over the project, Yadav accused the state government of disposing of public institutions.
“You have sold the JPNIC for an amount that an industrialist would earn only from its parking,” Yadav said.
He also alleged that thousands of government schools had been shut down under the current administration. According to Yadav, the SP will organise programmes at some of these schools on Teachers’ Day on September 5.
SP Raises Voter List Concerns
With the Assembly election approaching, Yadav also questioned the proposed revision of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh.
He alleged that the BJP government was working in “collusion” with the Election Commission to manipulate voter lists, though the allegation was not accompanied by evidence in the remarks cited.
The SP chief further criticised the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force, describing it as a “caste-based torture force” and alleging that members of PDA communities were being targeted.
Yadav said that if the SP returns to power, cases involving alleged fake encounters would be investigated.
SP Looks To Build On 2024 Lok Sabha Gains
The Samajwadi Party is entering the 2027 Assembly contest after a stronger performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when it won 37 seats in Uttar Pradesh, emerging as the state’s largest party.
The party had secured 111 seats in the 2022 Assembly elections and is now attempting to turn its recent electoral gains into an Assembly victory.
Yadav also alleged that AI-generated videos were being used against him and his wife, Mainpuri MP Dimple Yadav.
The SP chief expressed confidence that the party’s PDA strategy would help it form the next government in Uttar Pradesh after the 2027 Assembly elections.
