Third district-level camp brings specialist doctors from Mumbai and Kolhapur; nearly 10,000 patients benefited from two earlier camps
Sindhudurgnagari: A Mega Health Camp jointly organised by Sindhudurg Medical College, the District Hospital and the Zilla Parishad Health Department received an encouraging response from residents across the district, particularly from rural areas.
The camp was held at the Medical College campus in Sindhudurgnagari on the initiative of Guardian Minister Nitesh Rane and was formally inaugurated by Zilla Parishad Vice-President Tukaram alias Dada Sail.
Speaking at the programme, Sail said health camps were an effective way of bringing medical services closer to patients, especially those who may otherwise find it difficult to access specialist treatment.
He stressed that such camps should not remain confined to urban centres and should increasingly be organised in rural areas so that quality healthcare reaches people closer to their homes.
Zilla Parishad Health Committee Chairman Pritesh Raul echoed the demand, calling for similar camps at Primary Health Centres and Health Sub-Centres across Sindhudurg.
The programme was held at the Out-Patient Department of the Medical College and began with the traditional lighting of the lamp.
Among those present were Zilla Parishad member Deeplaxmi Padte, NCP district president Abid Naik, general secretary Savalaram Anavkar, Medical College Dean Dr Anant Davange, Medical Superintendent Dr Shilpa Narayankar, District Civil Surgeon Dr Shripad Patil, Additional District Civil Surgeon Dr Arjun Narote and District Resident Medical Superintendent Dr Subodh Ingle.
Specialist doctors from Mumbai and Kolhapur, along with faculty members, doctors, nurses and staff of the District Hospital and Medical College, also participated in the camp.
Sail appealed to residents to support efforts aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure within Sindhudurg so that more patients could receive treatment within the district itself.
After the inauguration, the guests visited various departments and interacted with patients and specialist doctors attending the camp.
They also inspected the CT scan facility, radiology department, the special unit for malnourished children and the mini operation theatre, and reviewed the medical services available there.
Guardian Minister Nitesh Rane and Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif conveyed their best wishes over the telephone to Medical College Dean Dr Davange and District Civil Surgeon Dr Patil for the successful conduct of the camp.
This was the third Mega Health Camp organised in the district. Two earlier camps were held at the Rural Hospitals in Kankavli and Sawantwadi.
According to the organisers, around 10,000 patients had benefited from the two previous camps.
