Delhi Police has intensified its action following the violence that erupted during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)’s “Chalo Sansad” march, registering 15 FIRs and invoking serious criminal charges, including attempt to murder, against those allegedly involved. The police claim the protest escalated into a violent confrontation in which demonstrators tried to break security barricades and advance towards Parliament.
According to police sources quoted in media reports, around 130 police personnel sustained injuries during the clashes, while approximately 65 students were also injured. Security deployment in and around Jantar Mantar has been significantly strengthened, with nearly 3,000 police personnel stationed to manage crowds that have averaged around 10,000 people in recent days.
One of the FIRs, lodged at Kartavya Path Police Station, alleges that protesters assembled near Rafi Marg attempted to force their way towards Parliament despite repeated warnings that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in force.
The complaint, filed by a police inspector deployed in the high-security zone, states that officers received wireless alerts around 11.30 am indicating that a large group of protesters was moving from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament. Police teams were then rushed to barricades near the Rail Bhawan roundabout, where thousands of protesters had reportedly gathered.
According to the FIR, officers repeatedly appealed through loudspeakers for demonstrators to disperse, warning them that the area was under prohibitory restrictions. However, the complaint alleges that sections of the crowd ignored the warnings, raised slogans, displayed placards, and later delivered speeches encouraging protesters to breach police barricades and enter Parliament premises.
Police have further alleged that the crowd turned violent by surrounding security personnel, pelting stones and slippers, damaging government property and private vehicles, and assaulting officers deployed at the site. The FIR claims that several police personnel suffered injuries during the confrontation, prompting security forces to use what the police described as a “mild lathicharge” along with tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and secure the Parliament complex.
Based on these allegations, police have invoked multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to unlawful assembly, rioting, assault on public servants, damage to public property, endangering life, and attempt to murder.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police has also stepped up surveillance around the protest venue. According to police sources cited in media reports, authorities are using Facial Recognition System (FRS) cameras to identify individuals with criminal backgrounds attending the demonstrations. Officials claim that more than 2,000 such individuals have been identified so far.
The developments come as protests linked to the CJP’s demands continue to draw large crowds, with heightened security remaining in place across central Delhi.
