In a significant development in the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) paper leak investigation, police have arrested alleged key accused Bijendra Kumar Gupta from Bihar. Authorities believe the arrest could help unravel the wider network behind one of the state’s most high-profile examination fraud cases.
Following the operation, Gupta was flown to Pune on Saturday before being taken to Bhiwandi, where investigators are expected to seek his custodial interrogation to examine his alleged involvement in planning and executing the paper leak.
Police to Probe Alleged Interstate Network
Investigators say Gupta’s questioning is expected to provide crucial leads into the operation of the alleged racket, including its organisers, beneficiaries and financial transactions. Officials are also looking into whether the network extended beyond Maharashtra and was linked to similar examination frauds in other states.
Police are likely to present Gupta before a local court to request custody for detailed interrogation as the investigation moves into its next phase.
Investigation Expands Beyond Maharashtra
The arrest follows months of investigation into the TET paper leak case, which has already resulted in multiple arrests. Authorities suspect Gupta played a central role in coordinating the alleged conspiracy and are now attempting to identify additional individuals connected to the operation.
Investigators are also examining possible financial trails linked to the alleged proceeds of the scam.
Earlier Arrests Added Momentum to Probe
Earlier this year, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested Suman Gupta, wife of Bijendra Kumar Gupta, in Patna. Investigators suspect she had knowledge of the alleged paper leak network and are examining financial transactions believed to be connected with the case.
Her arrest had strengthened the investigation, paving the way for fresh leads that eventually resulted in Gupta’s capture.
Links to Other Examination Cases Under Scanner
Police are also investigating whether Gupta had connections with alleged examination paper leak cases in other parts of the country, including recruitment and competitive examinations conducted in Odisha, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.
Officials believe his interrogation could reveal the extent of the suspected interstate network and help identify others who may have been involved in organising examination fraud across multiple states.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police expected to disclose further details after Gupta’s court appearance and custodial questioning.
