Cockroach Janata Party Chief Abhijit Dipke Begins Indefinite Fast After Sonam Wangchuk Shifted to Hospital

The protest surrounding the NEET controversy intensified on Saturday after Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Dipke announced an indefinite hunger strike following the transfer of activist Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital. Wangchuk was shifted after his health reportedly deteriorated during his prolonged fast, while Delhi Police maintained that the move was carried out on medical advice and in compliance with directions of the Delhi High Court.

Dipke Announces Hunger Strike

Soon after Wangchuk was taken to the hospital, Dipke declared that he would continue the protest through an indefinite fast.

In a post shared on X, he stated, “I am starting an indefinite hunger strike beginning right now.”

The announcement marked a fresh escalation in the ongoing agitation over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and the reported deaths of students linked to the controversy.

Police Shift Wangchuk to Hospital

Sonam Wangchuk had been observing an indefinite hunger strike since June 28 at Jantar Mantar. As his health reportedly worsened on the 21st day of the protest, Delhi Police shifted him to Safdarjung Hospital.

Police said the decision was taken to ensure that Wangchuk received essential medical care and appealed to demonstrators to maintain peace and vacate the protest site without confrontation.

Dipke Alleges Police Action

Following the police intervention, Dipke alleged that Delhi Police used force against protesters. He claimed he was assaulted and detained during the operation at Jantar Mantar.

Authorities have not confirmed these allegations and have maintained that their priority was to provide medical assistance to Wangchuk while preserving law and order.

Protest Continues Despite Hospitalisation

The agitation has continued even after Wangchuk’s hospitalisation. Student activists associated with the All India Students’ Association (AISA), including Neha, Aameen and Manish, have continued their hunger strike at the protest site.

The demonstration remains focused on demands for accountability over the alleged NEET examination irregularities and concerns raised by protesters regarding students affected by the issue.
