Mumbai: FDA Suspends Shalimar , Noor Mohammadi Hotel & Rehmania Restaurant Licences Over Hygiene Violations

Mumbai Eateries Face FDA Action After Inspections

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licences of Shalimar Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., Noor Mohammadi Hotel and Rehmania Restaurant following inspections that allegedly uncovered multiple violations of food safety and hygiene standards. The action was taken by the Greater Mumbai Division under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.

Officials said the inspections found conditions that could pose a potential risk to consumer health, prompting immediate regulatory action against the establishments.

Shalimar Hospitality Failed to Rectify Earlier Deficiencies

According to the FDA, Shalimar Hospitality’s licence was suspended after a follow-up inspection found that several shortcomings identified during an earlier inspection had not been addressed despite an improvement notice.

Inspectors reportedly found unhygienic kitchen conditions, slippery flooring, missing procurement records for raw materials, absence of potable water quality reports, lack of cooking oil quality documentation, inadequate segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food preparation, and insufficient measures to prevent insects from entering food preparation areas.

Noor Mohammadi Hotel and Rehmania Restaurant Also Penalised

The FDA said Noor Mohammadi Hotel was found operating under unsanitary conditions, including grease accumulation in kitchen areas, poor pest-control measures, unhygienic storage of food items, deteriorating walls and ceilings, absence of supplier records, lack of water testing documentation and the use of worn-out kitchen equipment.

Rehmania Restaurant also faced suspension after officials allegedly detected improper storage of food and packaging materials, rusted equipment, damaged food preparation areas, inadequate insect-proofing, and the absence of mandatory food safety and drinking water testing records.

FDA Warns Against Compromising Public Health

The food safety regulator stated that all licensed food establishments are required to comply with hygiene and sanitation standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Regulations. It warned that strict enforcement will continue against businesses found violating food safety norms or endangering public health.

Officials said maintaining hygienic food preparation practices and proper documentation is mandatory, adding that consumer safety remains the administration’s highest priority.
