Restaurants and Small Businesses Benefit From Price Cut
Commercial establishments across India received welcome relief on Tuesday as the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders was reduced by ₹183.50, effective July 1. The reduction is expected to lower operating costs for restaurants, hotels, food outlets and other businesses that rely heavily on commercial cooking gas.
However, there is no change in the price of 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinders, meaning household consumers will continue to pay the existing rates.
New LPG Prices in Major Cities
Following the latest revision, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been reduced to:
- Delhi: ₹2,930
- Mumbai: ₹2,885.50
- Kolkata: ₹3,081.50
- Chennai: ₹3,100
Domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged at:
- Delhi: ₹942
- Mumbai: ₹941.50
- Kolkata: ₹968
- Chennai: ₹957.50
In addition, the price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder has been cut by ₹13, bringing its retail price in Delhi down to ₹808.50.
Why Have Commercial LPG Prices Fallen?
The latest reduction comes after international crude oil prices softened due to easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Lower concerns over global energy supply disruptions have helped reduce fuel costs, leading to a downward revision in commercial LPG prices.
The price cut also reverses last month’s increase, when commercial LPG cylinder rates were raised because of supply concerns linked to tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
No Relief Yet for Household LPG Users
While businesses have benefited from the latest revision, domestic consumers will not see any reduction in cooking gas prices this month. Oil marketing companies have kept household LPG cylinder prices unchanged despite the decline in commercial rates.
