Defence Ministry Rejects Claims on Operation Sindoor Martyrs, Says Nation Honoured Bravehearts Without Delay

The Ministry of Defence on Saturday dismissed reports claiming that the sacrifice of six personnel who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor had been publicly acknowledged only recently. The ministry said the fallen soldiers were honoured by the nation immediately after the operation and described recent claims circulating in sections of the media and on social media as factually incorrect.

In an official statement, the ministry said, “Certain reports circulating in sections of the media and on social media platforms have incorrectly suggested that the supreme sacrifice of six bravehearts during Operation Sindoor has been acknowledged or brought to public notice for the first time only recently. It is clarified that the nation paid homage to these fallen heroes at the earliest opportunity, well before the reports in question.” (Quote source: Ministry of Defence statement.)

The ministry highlighted that during the official press briefing on May 11, 2025, the then Director General of Military Operations had paid tribute to the six soldiers and publicly recognised their sacrifice during Operation Sindoor. It also noted that the brave personnel were later conferred gallantry awards, which were officially announced through a press release issued on August 14, 2025.

According to the ministry, the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force continued to honour the soldiers through official ceremonies and public tributes. The Army Chief presented the Sena Medal (Gallantry) to the families of three of the soldiers during the Army Day Parade in Jaipur on January 15, 2026, while the Chief of the Air Staff honoured other personnel during a ceremony held on October 8, 2025.

Addressing questions regarding the engraving of the martyrs’ names on the National War Memorial, the ministry clarified that the process follows a fixed protocol and is carried out with utmost care and respect. It maintained that all established procedures are being followed and rejected allegations that there had been any delay or deviation in the process.

The statement further said it was unfortunate that an unnecessary controversy had emerged over the issue, warning that inaccurate reporting could hurt the families of the fallen soldiers and undermine the dignity of those who made the supreme sacrifice while serving the nation.

The ministry also appealed to media organisations and the public to verify information before sharing it and to report responsibly on matters involving military personnel. It urged all stakeholders to avoid spreading unverified claims related to the armed forces.

Reaffirming its commitment to honouring India’s armed forces, the Defence Ministry said the six personnel who laid down their lives during Operation Sindoor will always be remembered as national heroes. It added that their courage, dedication and sacrifice will continue to inspire future generations, and the nation will forever honour their memory with gratitude and respect.
