Jan Shakti Janata Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav has surrendered the remaining security personnel assigned to him by the Bihar government, declaring that the state administration remains accountable for his protection despite the move.
The decision comes shortly after a review of VIP security arrangements in Bihar led to changes in the protection provided to several political leaders. Tej Pratap had earlier been covered under a Y-category security arrangement, which was later scaled down, leaving him with limited protection.
Security Cover Returned
After returning to Bihar, Tej Pratap chose to give up the remaining security staff as well. He announced the decision through a social media post and said the state government had already been informed about his action.
The former minister maintained that he no longer wished to retain the security personnel assigned to him and had voluntarily returned them.
Holds Government Responsible
While surrendering the security cover, Tej Pratap asserted that the responsibility for his safety still lies with the Bihar government. He said ensuring the security of political leaders, including those in the opposition, is an important duty in a democratic system.
He also warned that if any untoward incident were to occur in the future, accountability would rest with the state administration.
Political Reactions Expected
The development has triggered fresh political discussion in Bihar, especially as it follows recent changes in security arrangements for several prominent leaders.
The issue has drawn attention because the Bihar government recently reviewed security cover provided to a number of political figures, including members of the family of Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi.
