The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a set of candidate-focused reforms for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026, aimed at making the examination process smoother and more efficient for lakhs of medical aspirants across the country.
Scheduled to be conducted on June 21, 2026, the entrance examination will now provide candidates with a longer overall testing window, following repeated feedback regarding time management and examination formalities.
Longer Examination Window for Candidates
Under the revised format, the examination will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM, extending the total examination window to 195 minutes. The revised schedule includes time required for mandatory procedures such as attendance verification, signature collection and other invigilation-related formalities.
According to NTA, the change is intended to ensure that candidates receive the full benefit of the allotted examination time without feeling pressured by administrative processes conducted inside examination halls.
More Space for Rough Work
In another significant change, the agency has increased the space provided for rough calculations and workings within the question paper booklet. The move is expected to benefit candidates attempting physics, chemistry and mathematics-based calculations, reducing the need to manage limited rough work areas during the examination.

Focus on Fairness and Candidate Comfort
NTA said the modifications are part of its ongoing efforts to make NEET UG more secure, transparent and responsive to student concerns. The agency noted that the changes were introduced after reviewing feedback received from candidates over several years.
