Yusuf Pathan, Shatrughan Sinha Among 19 TMC MPs Reportedly Backing Rebel Camp; Mamata Faces Fresh Challenge

The political turmoil within the Trinamool Congress intensified on Wednesday after reports emerged that 19 Lok Sabha MPs, including prominent leaders Yusuf Pathan, Shatrughan Sinha and Sayoni Ghosh, have reportedly aligned with a dissident faction challenging the party leadership.

Sources familiar with the developments claimed that the rebel camp is exploring options to function independently inside Parliament while extending support to the NDA without immediately resigning from the Trinamool Congress. The move is being viewed as a major challenge for party chief Mamata Banerjee at a time when internal divisions continue to widen.

According to sources, the MPs who have reportedly associated themselves with the rebel group include:

  • Shatrughan Sinha (Asansol)
  • Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar (Barasat)
  • Jagadish Chandra Basunia (Cooch Behar)
  • Khalilur Rahaman (Jangipur)
  • Yusuf Pathan (Baharampur)
  • Abu Taher Khan (Murshidabad)
  • Partha Bhowmick (Barrackpore)
  • Bapi Haldar (Mathurapur)
  • Sayoni Ghosh (Jadavpur)
  • Mala Roy (Kolkata South)
  • Mitali Bag (Arambagh)
  • Deepak Adhikari (Ghatal)
  • Kalipada Soren (Jhargram)
  • June Malia (Medinipur)
  • Arup Chakraborty (Bankura)
  • Sharmila Sarkar (Bardhaman East)
  • Asit Kumar Mal (Bolpur)
  • Satabdi Roy (Birbhum)
  • Rachana Banerjee (Hooghly)

Sources further claimed that the dissident MPs are considering informing Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla about their position and may seek recognition as a separate group within Parliament.

The latest development comes amid growing unrest within the party following recent resignations and public criticism from former senior leaders. Political observers believe the unfolding situation could trigger a prolonged battle over leadership, party control and parliamentary strength.

Adding to the speculation, reports suggested that some rebel MPs recently held discussions in New Delhi with senior political figures. A photograph circulating on social media allegedly showed several MPs and leaders associated with the dissident camp meeting together, though no official statement has been issued regarding the gathering.

The crisis in Parliament follows reports of discontent within the West Bengal Assembly, where a section of legislators had reportedly opposed decisions taken by the party leadership. The twin challenges in both the Assembly and Parliament have fuelled debate over the future direction of the Trinamool Congress.

While neither the party leadership nor the MPs named in the reports have officially confirmed a split, the developments have intensified political uncertainty and raised fresh questions about the stability of the party’s organisational structure ahead of future electoral battles.
