IMD Issues 7-Day Heavy Rain Alert: Tamil Nadu, Bengal And Northeast Brace For Intense Monsoon Activity

Monsoon Picks Up Pace Across India

The southwest monsoon has gathered momentum and is steadily expanding its reach across the country, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a fresh forecast of widespread rainfall over several regions during the coming week.

Weather officials expect multiple states in southern, eastern and northeastern India to experience sustained rain activity, with some locations likely to record intense downpours over the next several days.

Southern States Likely To Receive Significant Rainfall

Tamil Nadu, Kerala and parts of Karnataka are expected to remain under the influence of active monsoon conditions, leading to recurring spells of moderate to heavy rainfall.

Meteorologists indicate that certain areas could witness very heavy precipitation, increasing the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying regions and disruptions to daily activities.

Bengal And Northeast On Rain Watch

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is also likely to see a sharp rise in rainfall activity as moisture-laden monsoon winds strengthen over eastern India.

Meanwhile, several Northeastern states are expected to receive widespread showers throughout the week. Weather experts have warned that isolated locations may experience particularly intense rainfall episodes, especially in hilly and foothill regions.

Monsoon Set To Cover More Areas

According to forecasts, favourable atmospheric conditions are likely to help the southwest monsoon advance further into additional parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka over the next few days.

The monsoon is also expected to expand into more regions of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim and other Northeastern states, bringing much-needed rainfall to several areas.

Mumbai May Witness Thunderstorms

Mumbai is also expected to experience unstable weather conditions, with forecasts indicating a high probability of rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

The city could witness intermittent showers and cloudy skies as monsoon activity strengthens along India’s western coastline.
