Former India captain issues clarification
Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has publicly rejected reports suggesting he played a role in political discussions involving Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan. Ganguly stated that claims linking him to any communication regarding parliamentary matters were completely inaccurate.
Report sparked political speculation
The controversy emerged after a media report suggested that Ganguly had allegedly contacted Pathan in connection with discussions surrounding the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat. The report fuelled speculation about possible political developments and future electoral plans in West Bengal.
Ganguly says no such communication took place
In his clarification, Ganguly categorically stated that he had never been requested to convey any message to Pathan and had not contacted him regarding his position as a Member of Parliament. He maintained that the claims lacked factual basis and should not have been circulated without proper verification.
Urges media to verify information
The former BCCI president expressed concern over the publication of unverified information and called on media organisations to exercise greater caution before reporting sensitive political matters. He stressed the importance of fact-checking and responsible journalism when dealing with speculative claims.
No involvement in political discussions
Ganguly further clarified that he has not been involved in political negotiations concerning any of the individuals named in the reports. According to him, the allegations incorrectly portrayed his role and created unnecessary speculation around an issue in which he had no involvement.
