Education activist backs growing youth campaign
Educator and climate advocate Sonam Wangchuk joined a student-led demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday, adding momentum to a movement demanding greater accountability in the country’s education system.
His arrival drew attention from students and young activists gathered at the protest venue, where concerns over examination management, recruitment processes, and educational governance were at the centre of discussions.
Wangchuk calls for justice and meaningful change
Addressing the gathering, Wangchuk said that while public demonstrations are not his preferred method of engagement, the concerns raised by students warranted attention. He stressed the need for reforms that can strengthen trust in educational institutions and better address the aspirations of young people.
The activist also highlighted the importance of creating a system that is transparent, fair, and responsive to the challenges faced by students across the country.
Movement focuses on examination and recruitment concerns
The protest was organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a youth-driven campaign founded by Abhijeet Dipke. The movement has gained visibility through its criticism of alleged irregularities in examinations and recruitment processes.
Participants at the rally raised concerns over recurring controversies linked to competitive examinations and sought stronger accountability mechanisms within the education sector.
Demand for accountability remains central issue
Among the key demands raised during the demonstration was greater responsibility from authorities overseeing examinations and educational administration. Protesters argued that repeated disputes surrounding major tests have affected the confidence of students preparing for academic and professional opportunities.
Wangchuk’s presence boosts visibility of protest
Wangchuk had earlier indicated that he would support the agitation if concerns raised by students remained unresolved. His participation significantly increased the profile of the demonstration and brought national attention to the issues being highlighted by organisers.
Youth mobilisation gathers momentum
The Jantar Mantar gathering marked one of the largest public events organised by the movement since its emergence earlier this year. Organisers said the campaign would continue to push for transparency, accountability, and reforms aimed at improving confidence in India’s education system.
