The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is preparing for a significant organisational overhaul after the upcoming Legislative Council elections, with party leader Tejashwi Yadav expected to initiate a restructuring exercise aimed at strengthening the party ahead of future political contests in Bihar.
According to party insiders, the revamp could bring changes across multiple levels of the organisation, including the appointment of a new Bihar state president. The move is being viewed as part of a broader strategy to energise the party machinery and improve coordination from the state leadership down to the booth level.
Series of Consultations Planned
Before finalising the new organisational structure, Tejashwi Yadav is expected to hold a series of meetings with district presidents, senior party leaders and grassroots workers. These discussions will focus on reviewing the party’s current functioning, strengthening local networks and preparing a roadmap for future elections.
Sources indicated that feedback gathered during these interactions will play a key role in shaping the new leadership team, which could be announced soon after the MLC elections.
Questions Over Current Leadership
Speculation over organisational changes has intensified amid growing discussions within the party regarding the future of current Bihar RJD president Mangani Lal Mandal. Although Mandal was appointed to the position last year, recent remarks expressing dissatisfaction over internal coordination and adherence to party procedures have fuelled speculation about a possible leadership change.
Party leaders believe the restructuring exercise could extend beyond the state president’s post, with several organisational positions also likely to witness changes.
Several Names in Contention
As discussions gather momentum, a few senior leaders have emerged as possible contenders for the state president’s position.
Among them is Kumar Sarvajeet, the MLA from Bodh Gaya, who is considered close to both RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav. His organisational experience and proximity to the party’s top leadership have made him a prominent name in internal discussions.
Former MP and current Ujiarpur MLA Alok Mehta is also being seen as a strong contender. Known for his long political experience and connection with grassroots workers, Mehta is regarded as a leader with considerable organisational influence.
Another name being discussed is RJD MP Sudhakar Singh, son of former state party chief Jagdanand Singh. His inclusion in the conversation reflects the party’s effort to evaluate multiple leadership options before taking a final call.
Focus on Booth-Level Strengthening
The proposed reshuffle comes at a time when the RJD is seeking to strengthen its organisational structure across Bihar. Party strategists believe a stronger booth-level network will be crucial in consolidating support and improving electoral performance in the coming years.
