Karnataka political activity intensifies amid leadership uncertainty
Political developments in Karnataka gathered momentum after several senior ministers and ruling party legislators reportedly met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his residence to express support for his leadership amid ongoing speculation surrounding a possible change at the top.
According to political sources, leaders close to Siddaramaiah urged him not to resign and encouraged him to adopt a stronger public position regarding the unfolding political situation within the state unit.
MLAs discuss show of strength in legislature party
Sources indicated that ministers and MLAs discussed the possibility of organising a coordinated show of support inside the legislature party. Suggestions reportedly included gathering signatures from lawmakers and sending a formal communication to the party leadership reaffirming confidence in Siddaramaiah’s leadership.
Some legislators also reportedly proposed that when senior observers and Congress representatives visit Karnataka, MLAs should openly demonstrate their backing for the Chief Minister to reinforce unity within the party ranks.
Siddaramaiah remains cautious during internal discussions
Despite the appeals from supporters, Siddaramaiah is believed to have maintained a restrained approach during the discussions. Sources claimed that he did not provide any immediate assurance and instead informed those present that he would respond after further consideration.
The developments have further intensified speculation over the future leadership structure in Karnataka, especially amid reports that Siddaramaiah may soon meet Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot regarding possible political developments.
Congress leadership holds key consultations in Delhi
Amid the uncertainty, the Congress high command reportedly held discussions in Delhi regarding Karnataka’s political situation. Sources claimed that senior leaders asked Siddaramaiah to communicate his final decision to KC Venugopal following internal consultations.
Political discussions also reportedly included the possibility of Siddaramaiah taking up a role in national politics, including a potential Rajya Sabha position. However, sources suggested that the Karnataka leader is currently reluctant to shift away from state politics and has sought additional time before making any decision.
Speculation grows ahead of Rajya Sabha elections
The ongoing political activity comes ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, increasing attention on internal Congress dynamics in Karnataka. A recent marathon meeting involving senior party leaders further fuelled speculation regarding leadership changes, though the party officially maintained that discussions were centred on election preparations.
Meanwhile, Randeep Singh Surjewala appealed to the media to avoid speculation, stating that internal party discussions should not be misinterpreted.
