Leaders Across Parties Remember Nehru
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 62nd death anniversary, joining leaders across the political spectrum in remembering the veteran leader and freedom fighter.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Paying homage to former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary.”
Congress Pays Floral Tribute at Shantivan
Senior leaders of the Indian National Congress gathered at Shantivan to honour Nehru’s memory.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi offered floral tributes during the memorial programme. Senior party leaders KC Venugopal and BK Hariprasad were also present.
The Congress described Nehru as the “architect of modern India” and highlighted his contribution to building democratic institutions in the country.
Tributes Pour In From Across India
Supriya Sule also remembered Nehru, saying he laid the foundation for India’s long-term development and national progress.
In Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah participated in tribute events organised in Bengaluru, including programmes near Vidhana Soudha and the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office.
Nehru’s Legacy Continues to Shape India
Jawaharlal Nehru was a key figure in India’s freedom struggle and became the country’s first Prime Minister after Independence in 1947. He remained in office for over 16 years until his death on May 27, 1964.
Known for promoting scientific growth, industrialisation and the Non-Aligned Movement, Nehru is also remembered as “Chacha Nehru,” with his birth anniversary celebrated annually as Children’s Day across India.
