Mira Road Tension Escalates After Bakrid Protest Row, Police Conduct Lathi Charge

Bakrid Preparations Trigger Fresh Tension in Mira Road

A tense situation unfolded in Mira Road on Tuesday after protests linked to Bakrid preparations escalated into clashes between members of two communities, forcing police to step in with a lathi charge to control the crowd.

The controversy began near Poonam Cluster Society after a temporary structure allegedly built for keeping goats ahead of Bakrid was demolished by civic authorities following objections raised by local residents and Hindu organisations.

According to locals, the shed had been set up for Qurbani-related preparations before the festival.

Protest Intensifies After Pig Brought Near Bakra Mandi

The atmosphere became more tense after activists allegedly linked to groups such as Bajrang Dal and Sakal Hindu Samaj reportedly brought a pig near the protest site close to the Bakra Mandi area.

Videos circulating on social media showed protesters questioning why goats were being allowed inside society premises while objections were raised over bringing pigs into the area.

The move led to heated exchanges between members of both communities, with large crowds gathering near the society premises amid rising tension.

Police Step In as Scuffles Break Out

According to residents, attempts were later made to rebuild the demolished shed, which triggered another round of protests and verbal arguments.

The situation soon turned chaotic as scuffles broke out between groups in the area.

Police officials deployed in large numbers intervened to stop the clashes from spreading further. Authorities later conducted a lathi charge at multiple locations to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Visuals from the area showed police personnel trying to push back protesters while residents gathered on roads amid panic and confusion.

Heavy Security Deployment Continues

Security has been tightened across sensitive areas of Mira Road, especially near Poonam Cluster Society and nearby market zones.

Officials said the situation is currently under control but remains sensitive due to rising communal tension ahead of Bakrid celebrations.

Senior police officers have appealed to people not to spread rumours or inflammatory videos on social media.

Authorities are also reviewing viral footage from the incident and are expected to take legal action based on investigation findings.

Residents Appeal for Peace

Local residents from both communities urged people to maintain calm and avoid escalating the situation further.
