Congress Leader Warns of Major Economic Crisis During Uttar Pradesh Visit
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi-led central government during his visit to Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that the country is heading toward a serious economic crisis that would heavily impact ordinary citizens, especially the youth, farmers and small traders.
Addressing party workers and supporters, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the current economic system was built to favour a handful of powerful industrialists and warned that its collapse would create severe hardship for common people.
“For several days now, I have been saying that the economic structure Modi ji has altered, an economic storm is coming now,” Rahul Gandhi said while addressing the gathering.
‘Structure Built for Adani and Ambani Will Not Last’
Escalating his criticism of the government’s economic policies, the Congress MP claimed that the system allegedly designed around industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani would eventually fail.
“The structure he has erected in favour of Adani and Ambani will not endure; it is destined to collapse completely,” Rahul Gandhi said.
He further argued that influential business figures would remain protected while ordinary citizens would bear the consequences of any economic downturn.
“The tragedy is that the common people will bear the brunt. They will continue to sit in their palaces, but the youth of UP and the people of UP will be the ones to suffer the full impact of this shock,” he stated.
Rahul Gandhi Says Youth, Farmers and Labourers Will Be Hit Hardest
The Congress leader warned that the anticipated economic difficulties would primarily affect vulnerable sections of society, including unemployed youth, labourers, farmers and small business owners.
“The economic shock that is coming will not affect Adani, Ambani and Modi. Instead, it will affect youth, farmers, labourers, and small business owners of Uttar Pradesh,” he said.
He also claimed that the coming period could become one of the most difficult economic phases witnessed in recent years.
“It is poised to strike with a severity perhaps unseen in many years; a very difficult period lies ahead,” Rahul Gandhi added.
PM Modi’s Foreign Visits Also Criticised
During the speech, Rahul Gandhi also took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his foreign engagements and public messaging.
“Instead of taking concrete action, Narendra Modi is telling the nation not to go on foreign trips, but he is roaming around the globe,” he remarked.
The comments come amid ongoing political confrontation between the Congress and BJP over unemployment, inflation, wealth concentration and economic policy decisions ahead of key electoral battles.
BJP Yet to Respond to Remarks
There was no immediate response from the Bharatiya Janata Party regarding Rahul Gandhi’s latest comments. However, BJP leaders in the past have defended the government’s economic policies, claiming India remains among the fastest-growing major economies globally.
The Congress party has increasingly focused its campaign messaging on unemployment, rising inequality and allegations of corporate favouritism, with Rahul Gandhi repeatedly accusing the Modi government of benefiting select industrial groups.
