NTA Announces Revised Schedule for Medical Entrance Examination
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced that the NEET UG 2026 re-examination will be conducted on June 21, 2026, after the earlier examination held on May 3 was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak. The fresh examination will take place across India as well as at overseas centres, bringing relief to lakhs of students who had been waiting for clarity regarding the future of the country’s biggest medical entrance examination.
The announcement comes after days of uncertainty among candidates and parents, many of whom had been continuously searching for updates regarding the revised exam schedule, fresh admit cards, and application process after the cancellation of the original test.
Existing Applications to Remain Valid for Re-Exam
The NTA has clarified that students will not be required to fill out fresh application forms for the re-examination. The agency stated that all details already submitted by candidates, including application forms, exam city preferences, and candidature information, will remain valid for the upcoming test.
The agency also confirmed that revised admit cards will soon be uploaded on the official NEET website. Candidates will be able to download their hall tickets using their application number and date of birth once the link becomes active.
In its official statement, the agency said, “Candidates and parents are requested to rely only on the official channels of NTA,” while urging students to avoid rumours and misleading information circulating online.
Paper Leak Allegations Led to Cancellation of Original Exam
The decision to reconduct the NEET UG 2026 examination was taken after allegations of a paper leak surfaced shortly after the May 3 examination concluded. The controversy triggered widespread concern among students and parents regarding the fairness and transparency of the national-level entrance examination.
Following mounting criticism and demands for action, authorities decided to cancel the original examination and order a fresh test to maintain the credibility of the admission process for undergraduate medical courses across the country.
Education experts believe the re-examination is likely to witness tighter security arrangements and stricter monitoring measures to prevent any irregularities during the conduct of the exam.
